PICS: Shirtless, Sweaty Naval Academy Freshman Climb a Greased Obelisk

By: Brandon Voss

We just love a good greasy tradition, don't you?

About 1000 plebes at the U.S. Naval Academy took part in the annual Herndon Monument Climb earlier this week — and it only took about one hour and 32 minutes of slippery soft-core action to reach the top of the lard-coated phallic hunk of granite.

The goal is to knock a plebe’s "Dixie Cup” hat from the top and replace it with a midshipman’s hat, which ceremonially turns the plebes into midshipmen. But do you really care?
