Want: Disney Princess Designer Dolls
By Anna Mayerson
For the Disneyana collectors who have every Princess t-shirt, mug, blanket and backpack, Disney is raising the bar and releasing a limited edition “Princess Designer Collection."
More prestigious than their plastic counterparts, the ten designer dolls model intricate runway gowns as if they were on their way to the Royal Wedding. Beginning on August 22, the dolls will be on display at Disney Stores with a new princess available for purchase for a limited time.
High fashion doesn't come cheap: Each princess is expected to cost $59.50 and will be released in very limited quantities. The sketch art of the designs provides a fancy diva image for every doll, but Ariel with her brick red hair and multi-tiered dress steals the spotlight.
At the special Legends of Disney Awards ceremony on August 19th, the dolls will be granted to past Disney princess actresses. While Jodi Benson (The Little Mermaid) and Paige O’Hara (Beauty and the Beast) may be among the first to receive these precious collectors’ items, the toothpick waists and coy smiles of the designer princesses will charm buyers across the board.
The collection officially debuts at the 2011 Disney D23 Expo and attendees will have the opportunity to pre-purchase the entire collection before it hits stores.
