Vote: Which Music Star Should Be the Next Barbie?
There isn’t a Pop Princess, Country Queen, or Disco Diva that can hold a candle to Barbie. Her music career isn’t just magnificent—it’s massive! She’s had her own rock band (Remember Barbie and the Rockers from the ‘80s?), released several albums (Seriously. They’re totally available on iTunes right now.), and even had hit songs written about her. (You know you’re going to have “Barbie Girl” by Aqua stuck in your head all day now.)
Yes, when it comes to music, there are oodles of reasons why Barbie is the queen who reigns supreme. In fact, many musicians consider having their image captured in Barbie’s classic form to be one of the highest honors of their career. BarbieCollector.com has several of these stunning homages readily available for you to add to your collection and we’ll give you a chance to vote for who you think should be added to that list right after we take a look at a few that caught our eye.
The Ladies of the ‘80s Collection captures the iconic looks of Cyndi Lauper, Debbie Harry, and Joan Jett in breathtaking detail. (Just how fabulous is Cyndi’s hair?). Unfortunately, the Joan Jett doll is no longer available. (Drat!) But you can still snag the other ladies and be the envy of all your friends.
The Sinatra Barbie doll improves on the swinging style of Ol’ Blue Eyes like only Barbie can. From her platform heels to signature fedora, this doll is defiantly set in key of classic.
The Tim McGraw and Faith Hill dolls are the perfect picture of Country music royalty. Ken looks hunky with his brown beard and basic black suit while Barbie as Faith is absolutely flawless with her pearl earrings and perfect hair. The details on this dynamic duo are a-ma-zing!
While the list of musical icons who’ve had the Barbie treatment is impressive, there are still so many others we’d love to see.
A Madonna Barbie is an obvious no-brainer. In fact, the only thing better than a Madonna Barbie would be an entire Barbie line dedicated to the many looks of the Material Girl. Just imagine “Lucky Star,” “Music,” and “Vogue” Barbie dolls offered in an assortment dubbed The Immaculate Collection. (Naturally.)
Of course the possibilities are equally endless with Kylie Minogue and Janet Jackson. Kylie could even come in a box set with two shirtless Ken backup dancers, and a Janet Jackson Barbie with a built in wardrobe malfunction feature would be an absolute scream.
Obviously the self-proclaimed Barbie herself, Nicki Minaj, would be a fierce addition to any collection. (Feuding Lil' Kim sold separately.)
Just picture the perfection that would be an Annie Lennox “Sweet Dreams” Barbie addition to the Ladies of the ‘80s line. While we’re on the subject…dolls of ‘80s teen queens Debbie Gibson and Tiffany molded after Barbie’s little sister, Skipper, would be super sweet too!
And what about Lady Gaga? Will we see a Barbie Gaga before we see Gaga wearing a dress made of Barbie dolls?
How about a Britney Spears Barbie with retractable hair for that shaved head look or a P!nk Barbie with hair that changes from pink to platinum blonde in cold water? (Carey Hart Ken included…sometimes.)
Now it’s time to sound off in the poll below and let us know which one of these divas you think should be immortalized in plastic as a special edition Collector Barbie. Who knows? If enough of us make some noise, Mattel might just make it happen.
