Cheyenne Jackson Marries Longtime Partner
The Advocate reports that Cheyenne Jackson and his longtime partner, Monte Lapka, were married yesterday in New York.
The 30 Rock cast member and fan-favorite Glee guest star announced the news to his fans via Twitter. “ It's official, after 11 years together, Zora's no longer a bastard," Jackson wrote, joking about the dog the couple share, who was also in attendance for the event which took place at the beach in the Hamptons.
“Just married the best man I’ve ever known,” Jackson wrote.
The actor had been hearing wedding bells for some time, mentioning his desire to wed back in 2010 after California’s Proposition 8 ban was declared unconstitutional in an early court ruling.
"California dreaming, indeed," he wrote at the time. "Makes me feel prouder than ever to be a strong gay man. Now come on, home state of New York ... We all know that you're the 'concrete jungle where dreams r made of,' so make mine come true and take the necessary steps to allow me to make it legal with my man. Step up, we believe in you."
Same-sex marriage became legal in the state of New York in June and the first couples began marrying in July.
Jackson plans to continue his activism in the fight for marriage equality and will be taking part in an upcoming reading of 8—the play by Dustin Lance Black about the Prop. 8 trial—on September 19th.
