In a new ad for the HRC’s American for Marriage Equality Campaign, Megan Mullally and husband Nick Offerman (Parks & Recreation) wonder why gay and lesbian couples, who have literally spent their entire adult lives together, cannot legally marry in most of the United States, yet any random man and woman can tie the knot in Vegas.

The couple jokes that Mullally thought Offerman was Cedric the Entertainer the night they married in 2003, thus highlighting the ease with which opposite couples can wed—even if they have known each other for only a matter of hours. The example has long been a thorn in the side of the anti-gay marriage argument because it succinctly illustrates the fallacy that gay marriage threatens the "sanctity" of marriage.
