5 Moments Cee Lo Green Drove Us Crazy
From outrageous outfits and incredible live performances, to hit songs and unforgettable collaborations, Cee Lo Green’s career is full of stand-out moments – and we have no doubt he’ll be able to add his performance in TriStar Pictures’ Sparkle to that long list when the film lands in theaters on August 17. As we begin counting down the final days to the debut of this summer’s biggest musical smash, we’re taking a look back at five moments Cee Lo Green drove us crazy in the best way.
Forget You!
Cee Lo’s mega-hit single “Fu*k You!” – and the it’s radio-friendly sanitized incarnation “Forget You!” – owned us in 2010. The hot track dominated the airwaves, YouTube, and our iTunes playlists like no other that year – and the single’s 5 Grammy nominations highlighted the song’s pop culture power. Of course we love this song because it’s a great track, but we love Cee Lo even more for having the guts to take a no-no word and turn it into the entire point of a mainstream song.
He did WHAT at the Grammys?
How do you up the ante with a live performance of your song that already redefined the boundaries of acceptable mainstream music? Turn it into a kick-ass duet with Gwyneth Paltrow and add some backup from puppets provided by the Jim Henson Company! When Cee Lo took the stage at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards dressed in a costume that looked like the love-child of Big Bird and Mr. Snuffleupagus we were convinced he was a mad genius. But it was the mixture of Muppet-like band members and Paltrow that made this particular performance of his controversial hit “Forget You” unforgettable.
The Muppets Sing “Forget You!”
In what must be the funniest cover of all time, Camilla and the Chickens’ rendition of “Forget You” from Disney’s The Muppets movie had us cracking up – and clucking along. (Once it’s in your head, it’s impossible to get out.) You know you’ve reached iconic status when one of your songs has been covered by Jim Henson’s legendary Muppets – a rare feather for any singer to have in their cap.
His Sidekick is Perrfect.
When we first heard Cee Lo Green would be a mentor on the musical competitive reality series The Voice, we knew we’d be in for a good time. However, the many moments he appears on camera with his Persian Cat, Perrfect (the real star of the show), are so adorable and silly we can’t help getting the giggles.
Even His Cat Sings!
With Perrfect stealing the show on The Voice it was only a matter of time before she took a page out of Cee Lo’s book and began a solo career. The Persian wonder dropped her paw-pumping debut single – a remix of the classic Meow Mix commercial jingle – back in May of 2012 and melted our pet-loving hearts. The song was made available on www.MeaowMix.com in an effort to help pets in need. For each download of the song, one pound of Meow Mix kibble will be donated to Pets Are Wonderful Support, Los Angeles (PAWS/LA). The goal? To donate up to 12,000 pounds of cat food--enough to feed all of PAWS/LA's kitties for one year. Now that’s a cause we can sink our claws in!
