Surprise! Jake Shears Isn't Comfortable With His Naked Body

By: Brandon Voss

Jeez, if frequently shirtless — and pantless — Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears is insecure with his amazingly toned body, should the rest of us just give up?

This, of course, is the same man who famously posed in various states of undress for Butt magazine, posted a revealing faux Rentboy profile to promote the Scissor Sisters album Night Work, and gave Tim Hailand full access to his morning shower for the photog's One Day in the Life of... series.

Shears, an NYC go-go boy back when he was better known as Jason Sellards, discusses his body image issues in a new interview on

"If I seem comfortable with my body it's just an illusion," he says. "I've absolutely fallen prey to the age old trope of the queen who's obsessed with becoming some sort of porn star look alike. In some ways I've become exactly what I stood against when I was younger. Am I proud of that? Not particularly. But I think it's because when I was a kid, and that includes my twenties, it was something I always wanted but wasn't really able to have. I'm much happier feeling like a man than a boy. But strangely I've had three separate people tell me in the last week or so that I was like Peter Pan. I like getting older but I'm not really too keen on growing up."

As for his nekkid reputation, Shears also says, "Everyone thinks I'm naked all the time or something. In fact the funny thing is, I cant really stand it when someone is totally naked. I find it a real turn off."

For the record, Jake, we wholeheartedly disagree — hint, hint — and we think you're pretty darn close to perfect.
