Actor Wyatt Nash Made His TV Debut as Ultra-Religious 'Survivor' Contestant

If you’re one of the 3.4 million people who tuned into Lifetime’s Flowers in the Attic sequel Petals on the Wind on Monday night, you might have thought one of the movie’s young actors looked familiar but couldn’t quite place him. That’s because when Petals on the Wind star Wyatt Nash appeared as the super-religious contestant on Survivor: Redemption Island, he was using his birth name, Matt Elrod.

Nash told Entertainment Weekly he started going by Wyatt (his middle name and Nash for Nashville after he got voted off the Island because he wanted to make a fresh start as an actor. “I kind of wanted to start at ground zero and really work my way to where I am now,” he told EW. “I didn’t want to use [my experience on Survivor] as a leg up.”)

On Survivor, the reality star turned actor became known espousing his beliefs as a devout Christian, holding regular Bible studies on the show and, in an exit interview with the Christian Post, saying: "God was with me every step of the way ... I praise His name for just letting me be a vessel for Him. That's been my reward for all the struggle and all the strife I've been through."

But despite being outspoken about his beliefs on the show, the actor told Entertainment Weekly that despite initially being “a little turned off,” he soon came around to Petals On the Wind’s primary plot: An incestuous relationship between siblings Chris (Nash) and Cathy (Rose McIver). “It’s almost as if they weren’t together, they would go on leading these half-lived lives,” he said.. “If I would have thought that they could have moved forward and had happy lives apart from each other, I think I probably wouldn’t have rooted for them as much as I did.”
