Britney Spears’ Letter to Gay Fan: “I Wish You Nothing But the Best”

Britney Spears has been a gay icon since she first slipped into that skimpy Catholic school costume and gyrated her hips in the “Baby One More Time” video.

And while the singer has often shown appreciation to her gay fans, it’s her letter to a gay teen that was posted this week on Instagram that shows her not only to be a gay icon but a gay ally as well.

Spears’ note comes in response to a letter from David LeCours, who handed Spears a hand-written letter during a meet and greet after a performance of her Las Vegas show “Piece of Me” last week. In the letter, LeCours writes that Spears’ music helped him through the process of coming out.

LeCours explained on Instagram: “I honestly can’t believe I got to meet this wonderful and beautiful women again. She is the sweetest and nicest person alive. I got to give her my letter that I put so much effort into. The letter explained how she helped me get through a real tough period in my life these past couple of months, and how I wanted to end it all but she made me be strong. As I was leaving the building where meet and greet was held, Britney’s body guard ran and stopped me and said Britney requested my address so she could respond because my letter meant so much to her. Thank you for everything Britney. I wouldn’t be able to be so confident and open about my sexuality if your music and you didn’t help me. I love you so much, thank you for not only being my inspiration but helping me get back up and be strong.”

Mere days later, LeCours got a reply. He posted Spears’ letter to Instagram on Tuesday.

LeCours wrote in response to the letter: “I honestly have no words at all. I just want to thank you so much for taking the time to write me back and being such an amazing inspiration to me. You mean more than anything to me and it means more than you know for responding to me. Thank you so much, I love you.”
