On the Cutting Edge: Model Kerry Degman

Kerry Degman is one of the world’s most sought after male models. He gets booked for catwalk shows, photo shoots and campaign appearances all over the world—but that success almost eluded the 22-year-old. At six-feet tall he's consider short by industry standards, and he was continually rejected because of his height. Then his family stepped in.

"My younger sister and stepmother sent my senior pictures into what was Mode Models at the time," says Degman. "They sent me on to Jason Kanner at Major Models in New York and he made things happen for short people like me."

At that point Degman’s modeling career exploded. Only a few months after signing with Major Models in 2007, he shot a sexy campaign for Abercrombie & Fitch, which paved the way for a series of jobs with other brands like JC Penny’s American Living. Soon he was being featured in fashion editorials for magazines such as OUT, Tetu, Elle, M mensuel and Vogue. One of Degman's more recent shoots was in Salzburg, Austria, where he shot a campaign for Braun cruZer—the results of which can be seen all over Gay.net's Cutting Egde Style section.

"That one was good fun," says Kerry. “I got to meet up with people like b-boy Ronnie Abaldonado and DJ Lean Rock, and the pictures turned out really nice. I also enjoyed the fact that the shoot was about underlining your style in terms of shaving and grooming because obviously looks are pretty important as a model and I like to reinvent my appearance time and again. Plus, any job that takes me to a country I haven’t been to yet is one for the books anyway."

Degman is now entering a new phase of his career by being booked for public appearances. As part of his gig with Braun, he'll be appearing at Nickel Spa in New York to meet and mingle with Gay.net readers. But if you're curious about Degman's workout regimen for scoring an amazing body, don't expect this him to dish out any fitness tips. “Actually, I’m not all that much into working out hard," he says. "But with my busy lifestyle and often not so healthy diet, I try my best to keep active. I do cycling and hiking and love to spend my free time playing baseball or skateboarding.”

And as for being a top male model with tons of fans following his every move, both in print and all over the internet, Degman just shrugs it off. "It’s not like I act like a model all the time," he laughs. "In my free time I’m just a normal guy. I like sleeping in and doing normal things like playing with my new football table and dressing casual. It’s not that I don’t enjoy dressing up, but I just don’t like being best dressed," he says. "However, I have to admit that it takes me about one hour to get ready in the morning."

At least we now know there's some work involved in looking that hot.
