Dates to Remember
Coming up with an idea for a great date sometimes feels like an impossible task. The pressure to be original and romantic can often take the fun out of dating and leave you feeling stressed.
However, it doesn’t have to be that way. Sometimes the best dates are the simplest and most sincere. We asked our readers to fill us in on their favorite dates that made a lasting impression, and what we got was a list of ideas that will help you look like a dating genius.
Here’s what they had to say:
“My now-boyfriend and I had been talking for a bit about how we loved pop culture and campy things. So on our first real date we went to a Grease sing-along, and as a joke he brought a bottle Marilyn Merlot for our picnic. We laughed, had the best night, and always have a bottle of Marilyn on our anniversary.”
“My date was in a bowling league and really loved it, so he wanted to take me on a bowling date. I'm so NOT coordinated and I can't bowl, so I was really worried about looking stupid. But when we got there he not only taught me how to bowl better, but he let me win. He denied throwing the game, but it still showed me that he was a great guy.”
Ann Arbor, MI
“My boyfriend and I took a ghost tour of downtown, which is a total touristy thing. But sometimes it’s fun to do those kinds of things in your home city, especially if you haven’t already. Well, we thought it would be a joke, but we ended up getting so freaked out that we left early and then laughed about it all night long.”
“I'm from the South and was really missing my home a lot, so for my 21st birthday my boyfriend learned how to cook a Southern Garden Party for me and my friends.”
“When my boyfriend and I were first dating, he surprised me one night by getting the house key from my roommate and having a candlelight dinner waiting for me when I got home. He’d really gone the extra mile with burning a few CDs of soft jazz music and laying flowers all over the house in order to set the mood. It was one of the most romantic things anyone had ever done for me.”
San Francisco, CA
“My boyfriend was really into astronomy and loved stargazing. I’d never taken much interest in it, but one night he packed up his telescope and drove us up to a quiet place where we could clearly see the stars. He taught me how to spot a few constellations and we even saw a shooting star that night. To this day I can still spot them and remember how sweet it was for him to share his passion with me.”
