Gay TV Blog DVD pick: "Beowulf"

If you didn't get a chance to catch the spectacular "Beowulf" in theaters, you have to check it out on DVD.

Director Robert Zemeckis' stunning visual masterpiece is the kind of movie that makes you angry with critics for overuse of the term "feast for the eyes," because in this case, it really is.  The film is an animated re-telling of the ancient poem, and the all-star cast -- Anthony Hopkins, Ray Winstone and Angelina Jolie -- are transformed into animated creatures in a way never before seen in cinema.

Sure, the epic film is fantastic on all levels, but let's be honest here -- watching a 50 foot animated Angelina Jolie emerge from water in nothing but, well, her skin, is worth the price of the DVD.  (Yes, her breasts and lips are bigger than life as well...)

There's also a "making of" featurette that quite frankly is almost more interesting than the film.  It's an in-depth look at the entire special effects process of the making of the film, and it's truly mindboggling to watch. For instance, each actor must get covered with hundreds of electronic...dots that somehow -- oh, my brain can't even explain it, and how on earth ever came up with this invention is beyond me.  (Oddly missing from the "making of" featurette, however, is any trace of Angelina Jolie -- whoever made that decision should be fired).

Check it out on DVD. In the meantime, you can get a taste of the film in this uncensored trailer.
