Kimmel/Silverman Split: Who Gets Matt Damon in the Divorce?

(Getty Images)There are so few celebrity couples that are worth caring about. Mainly because most celebrity couples consist of two moderately talented people with above-average looks and/or money who sustain their careers by being part of a celebrity couple.  But when two truly talented people get together, like comedians Jimmy Kimmel and Sarah Silverman, it makes one think that maybe, just maybe, there is some hope...

Well, now the reigning King and Queen of Comedy have called it quits, and I can't help but wonder, is Matt Damon partially to blame for the demise of this golden couple? It was, after all, Damon who Silverman jokingly left Kimmel for earlier this year in one of the more recent bursts of inspiration with "I'm F#$% Matt Damon".  This in turn sparked Kimmel's star-studded retort ditty, I'm F#(*@ Ben Affleck, a less-inspired performance, but still funny.

Clearly, neither Damon nor Affleck are "the other man" (if only...). Instead I wonder if Silverman/Kimmel's success with these bits was some catalyst for their break-up.  Was it too much attention on a joke that probably got old really fast for them? Seeing as how their current success is so much a by-product of their coupledom, things must have been pretty irreperable for them to walk away from each other AND a career enhancer.

So will they be as powerful apart as they were together? Only time will tell. But hopefully it really is an amicable split - I would love to hear them incorporate details of their lives into their acts. Otherwise, which of them will be the first to ask the other, "how do ya like 'dem apples?"
