Banhart banks with new album cover
Just in case you've been living in a non-stop electronic cabaret these last few years, Devendra Banhart is the long-haired and bearded indie folk singer, who could be credited with spearheading the recent neo-folk revival. Or you might know him as actress Natalie Portman's boyfriend.
Here at Gay.com, we love the hairy fairy, who continues to captivate with his whimsical songcraft and uniquely hirsuit look often coupled with a bit of make-up and a lot of 60's finery. If Charles Manson had channeled his creativity into performance pieces for the Cockettes rather than deep readings of "The White Album," -- that's Devendra Banhart.
But these days, less is more for Banhart, who's recently joined with Priestbird drummer Greg Rogove to form Megapuss. Just take one look at the cover of their debut album "Surfing," out Oct. 7, and pictured below.
Not only are the two waxing homoeroticism with a sexy, naked, sword-wielding combat shot (you definitely didn't see this at the Beijing Olympics), but also with the album track "Adam and Steve," which sings of a power exchange over a Wham! "Careless Whisper" sample...
Mmm, sounds like a hit to us.
Listen to the track on their Myspace page or see them perform it live on their West Coast tour with Little Joy (feat. Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti) and Entrance Band:
