Audience can barely keep eyes open for AMAs

Yes, we know the American Music Awards are considered the red-headed step child next to the Grammys and MTV VMAs, but honestly, the producers should have handed out complimentary double expressos to patrons before the show to at least make them look like they were actually awake for the performances. Despite the audience snooze-fest, there are a few award acceptances worth mentioning. (Pics included!)

Chris Brown was the big winner for the night, taking home 3 trophies for artist of the year, male pop artist and male soul artist. He humbly said that one of his awards should have gone to Coldplay instead.

Kanye West had no reason to throw a tantrum this year, since he collected trophies for fave male rap/hip-hop artist and fave rap/hip-hop album. I'm glad that his ego didn't have to endure yet another bruising this year.

Rihanna was named best female artist in both pop and soul. Well done, but word of advice. Lose the eye patch.

A radiant Alicia Keys won for both best pop album and best soul album.

Mariah Carey was honored for being the solo artist with the most number one hits of all time.

Annie Lennox accepted the "Award of Merit" from Justin Timberlake, stating that "half of the award belongs to Dave Stewart".
