Prop 8 Drives Brad Pitt "Mental"

Brad Pitt is on the cover of the current issue of Rolling Stone, and in addition to chatting about his new movie The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Angie and the kids, of course, he bemoans the passage of Prop 8, telling the magazine, "I get enraged when people start telling other people how to live their lives. It drives me mental. This Prop 8 thing just drives me mental."

Brad doesn't just talk a good game, by the way. Back in September, he gave $100,000 to Californians Against Eliminating Basic Rights, a group fighting against the passage of the gay marriage ban in California. At the time, his donation to the cause was the largest to come from a celebrity, and it was heralded as a move that would inspire other wealthy figures in the entertainment industry to open up their wallets.

Although the vote didn't go our way, Ellen DeGeneres thanked Brad for his support when he recently appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show via satellite from New Orleans to promote his new film. "Well, that was certainly an easy one for me," Brad responded. "That, to me, is an issue of equality. I go back to the Declaration of Independence, that we are all created equal, and we're all free for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That proposition was stepping on people's pursuit of happiness, people's liberty, and I don't think it has any place in our definition of America. So I hope we figure that one out."

Me, too.

And I'm glad Brad is on our side. I really think it makes a difference when a guy like Brad, who is loved and admired by so many people, takes the time out to show some love to the gay community. Maybe he'll help change minds.

What do you think? Do you appreciate Brad's backing us, and do you think straight allies like Brad can truly make a difference?
