"American Idol" Set To Launch Season Eight: Are You In Or Out?
American Idol kicks off its eighth season tomorrow night on Fox, but do you care?
Last year, the show saw its lowest ratings ever, and to be honest, I can't even remember who won.
Okay, I just looked it up. David Cook won American Idol last season. I can't believe I forgot that! I even blogged about the whole David Cook vs. David Archuleta finale!
While my memory fails me, and I didn't download David Cook's or David Archuleta's debut albums from iTunes, I have never missed a season of American Idol, and I don't plan to miss this one.
So, yes, I will be watching American Idol tomorrow night, and I think a lot of other people will join me.
For starters, the economy stinks, and what else can we do but stay home and chill out in front of the TV these days?
Secondly, I am curious about this new judge they have hired. Her name is Kara DioGuardi, and she is an experienced songwriter and producer who has worked with the likes of Christina Aguilera, American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson, Celine Dion and Pink. Kara just might liven up the judges' table, especially during those shows where Paula Abdul can't keep her head up.
Oh, Paula. I make fun of her, but she's forever my girl. I love her. I can't help it. So what if she is loopy? Our best divas are a little out of it from time to time.
And Simon Cowell is my man. He tells it like it is, and I rarely disagree with him.
After all of these years, I still find these people—well, maybe not Randy "Everybody's My Dawg" Jackson—entertaining, and I love a good talent contest.
Not that we'll see much talent the first few episodes, which are devoted to the auditions. Every year, I am shocked by the delusional people who try out, and I cringe when the inevitable tone-deaf gay guy, convinced he is the next Celine, auditions for the judges, fails to make it, then bitches to the camera about what a bleepity-bleep Simon is.
Hopefully, that guy won't be one of you GayTVBlog readers this season!
