Celebs Weigh In On Chris Brown/Rihanna Incident
Neither Chris Brown nor Rihanna has anything to say publicly about their pre-Grammy Awards squabble, which turned violent and left Rihanna's face beaten up and Brown arrested on suspicion of making a criminal threat and potentially facing domestic abuse charges. But other celebrities are talking about it.
Will Smith may have made the most ridiculous comment, telling Extra, "People should take a minute before they jump on it and judge. We don't know nothing. If there are mistakes people make, then they should be willing to live up to the mistakes and do whatever penance they need to do. I don't think it's up to us, specifically the media, with such a fast hand to try to chop someone's head off."
Clearly, Smith is talking about Brown and his "mistake." If I could speak to Smith directly for a moment: I wouldn't call smacking a woman around a "mistake." I'd call it a crime.
Other celebrities have also spoken out about the incident, including Kanye West. "I was completely devastated during [my Grammy] performance,” West said during a radio interview with KIIS FM, noting he thinks of Rihanna as "my baby sis. I would do any and everything to help her in any situation.”
Elsewhere, a source close to Jay-Z, a mentor to Rihanna, tells Us Weekly magazine that he was enraged when he heard what Brown allegedly did to Rihanna. "He hit the roof," the source says, adding, "Chris is a walking dead man. He messed with the wrong crew."
While that sentiment is understandable, it is best that the authorities handle this matter. I, for one, hope that if proven guilty, Brown isn't yet another celebrity who gets off with a slap on his wrist, especially since word has it that last Sunday's attack may not be the first time he's laid a hand on Rihanna. Both TMZ.com and Us Weekly have spoken with sources who say Brown has been physically abusive with Rihanna before.
As for how Rihanna is holding up, her grandmother recently told Daily Nation, a Barbados newspaper, "I don't want people to worry. Rihanna is fine, and she is doing well."
Do you have a message you'd like to send to Rihanna? And if you had the chance, what would you say to Brown?
