Gossip Girl’s Chuck Bass Gets a Gay Kiss

In the popular Gossip Girl books by Cecily von Ziegesar, lothario Chuck Bass breaks both male and female hearts,
having flings with both genders. The television series inspired by the novels has kept Bass, played by brooding Ed Westwick, focused mainly on a will they/won’t they relationship with costar Leighton Meester’s character, Blair Waldorf.

But the TV show is introducing Bass’s affinity for man-on-man time in an upcoming episode. Or is it? Obviously, we’ll have to wait until the episode airs in season 3, but Blair’s hand may be behind the same-sex affection after all. Inside sources say Bass smooches Josh Ellis (played by soap hunk Neal Bledsoe), an NYU administrator charged with choosing an incoming freshman to deliver a speech. Blair decides she’s the right candidate for such an honor and will stop at nothing (as usual) to get it.

“In fact,” the magazine reports, “she’s so determined to snag the slot that she goes so far as to pimp out her boyfriend to the gay guy in charge.” There’s a juicy catch involved with the lovers’ scheme, and supposedly fans will want to hear Bass’s post-kiss reaction.

Let’s hope he liked it and Gossip Girl will take a cue from Greek and Degrassi: The Next Generation to realistically explore young-adult gay relationships. Pseudo girl-on-girl dalliances have been done to death on television as it is,
and Melrose Place is only the latest in a long line of campy programs to exploit the stereotype.
