Elton John Will Not Be Judging ‘American Idol’
Though Simon Cowell reports his phone is ringing off the hook with stars eager to fill his vacant seat at the judging table after this season of American Idol, gay rock icon Elton John isn’t one of the interested celebs, according to his rep.
A representative of the “Candle in the Wind” singer told GossipCop.com John “is not going to be a judge.”
The rumor was born from TMZ managing editor Harvey Levin’s comments to American Idol host Ryan Seacrest on his morning KIIS-FM radio show.
"I know who should replace Simon," Levin offered, "Elton John."
AI emcee, E! News host, and KISS DJ Seacrest agreed it was “a good idea. They kind of fill the same void — if you think about Simon's personality and Elton's personality — on so many levels." TMZ.com later reported an Idol set source confirmed John would serve as the Cowell seat-filler.
Seacrest spoke out to quash the speculation. “I want to tell you and everybody listening that there has not been any conversation on the set about a replacement," Seacrest said on the radio. "No one has gotten to the place of, 'Let's talk about this person or that person to be the replacement.'"
It’s already been suggested that Seacrest might in fact serve as both host and judge in subsequent American Idol seasons.
