‘A Star Is Born’ Again: Downey Jr. and Beyonce May Lead
The 1937 classic film chronicling a gifted ingenue’s tumultuous rise to fame has been remade twice already, with Judy Garland playing the new starlet to James Mason’s washed-up actor in 1954 and then in the popular 1976 Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson version, set in the music world.
Directing-dynasty heir Nick Cassavetes is set to remake the feature for Warner Bros. in 2012. According to reports, the studio is eyeing Robert Downey Jr. to fall for Beyoncé in the latest incarnation. There are also whisperings that Mad Men’s Jon Hamm and music sensations Alicia Keys and Rihanna may play supporting roles in the new adaptation.
A few years back Joel Schumacher was in talks to reboot the film with Will Smith and Jennifer Lopez in the leading roles.
