Kerry Washington Has “Been Waiting to Make Out With [Kristin Chenoweth] Forever”
Broadway alum Kristin Chenoweth is excited to coproduce and star in a biopic based on the life of bisexual “Son of a Preacher Man” singer Dusty Springfield. She’s even more excited to get fellow Broadway beauty Kerry Washington into the role of Springfield’s lesbian lover.
"I want Kerry Washington to play my girlfriend," Chenoweth said to E! back in April. "Dusty had a relationship with an African-American woman, and she was supposedly very attractive. Kerry is a great actress, and I think we'd be amazing together."
E! asked Washington, who is currently starring in David Mamet’s Race, what she thought of the prospective pairing. "It's very exciting,” said Washington. She said that upon hearing Chenoweth’s praise, “I was like, 'I would love to be your lesbian lover!' … I feel like I've been waiting to make out with her forever."
Springfield, who died of cancer at the age of 59, never spoke publicly about her sexuality. Chenoweth said she was drawn to the story of the “Look of Love” singer because “she's amazing and nobody knows the real thing, or some people do, but not the world."
The film will is reportedly being written and directed by Jessica Sharzer, while Springfield’s former manger, Vicki Wickham, will act as an official consultant for the movie.
