Vogue’s André Leon Talley Named New “ANTM” Judge
Miss J. Alexander’s judging will be missed, but there’s a new face at the judges’ table for the 14th cycle of America’s Next Top Model, and we hope he’s mean! The modeling competition reality show will get fresh judgments from Vogue editor at large André Leon Talley when the new season premieres March 10.
Show creator and host Tyra Banks first invited the out gay writer to join the judges’ panel back in 2001, but now the 60-year-old feels the time is right to make his mark on the modeling show. He explained to Women’s Wear Daily, “I felt maybe I could contribute something to it that had not been on the show. I just felt that it was a way to step out of the box and associate myself with a very important American success story, a very important brand — Tyra Banks."
Banks was in turn thrilled at the high standards and sense of history Talley will bring to the show. “André speaks about fashion and he has such a passion, and the words — the adverbs, the adjectives — he uses!” Banks marveled. “I know it’s going to make the viewer at home go, ‘Wowww…’ It might go over their head, but he’s educating them about a time, bringing them back to a place when fashion was life.”
New York magazine’s blog The Cut asked Vogue head honcho Anna Wintour her thoughts on the TV news, and through a rep she replied, “André is always on to new things on television, and I think his latest adventure sounds like a lot of fun and I look forward to watching him on the program.”
Hopefully, J. Alexander will remain a vital part of the program, coaching the aspiring models in the art of runway walking.
TELL US: Do you think André Leon Talley will be a good ANTM judge? Which judge is your favorite: Tyra, noted fashion photographer Nigel Barker, or whoever the resident seasoned supermodel (i.e.: Twiggy, Paulina Porizkova) is that cycle?
