NPH Gets Blue Balls: Smurfs Coming to Big Screen

It’s going to be a big blue adventure, boys! No, I’m not talking about Avatar 2: Bigger & Bluer, I’m talking about an animated feature of the classic ’80s cartoon starring jack-of-all-entertainment-trades Neil Patrick Harris.

The gay man of the decade, formerly known as Doogie, is set to voice a supercool Smurf in Sony’s big, kid-friendly revamp in which they’ll mix live action and animation (OK, if you say so…) in hopes of hitting it big at the box office. They’ve enlisted Beverly Hills Chihuahua director Raja Gosnell to helm the picture, putting forth some serious family film pedigree.

So just who will Harris be portraying? Will be taking the plunge in a big (well, rather small actually) blue, white-capped way?

One thing's for sure: he won’t be playing Big Daddy. The role of Papa Smurf has already been tipped for Jonathan Winters. Alas, Harris won’t be a Smurf at all, but rather their live action counterpoint. NPH will play an expectant father who has his life turned upside down upon meeting the tiny blue creatures.

One plea to Sony casting execs: Please get someone superfabulous to play Smurfette. NOT a certain girl-kissing poptart. We humbly suggest Liz Taylor or Lady Gaga.
