Want: ‘Mad Men’ Barbies by Mattel

There are quite a few of us enamored of that gorgeous, perfectly accessorized, glamorous plastic blond symbol of femininity. The girl with the dream house, car, clothes, figure, and man. No, we’re not talking about Gisele Bundchen— it’s Barbie.

The legendary Mattel dolls have done and seen it all in their 50-year history, and now everyone’s favorite little fashion plate is getting the stylish retro treatment for a special edition limited line of Mad Men dolls.

I only have one small complaint about the Sterling Cooper-ized Barbies and Kens, and it’s got nothing to do with the fact that toys are being inspired by characters that lie, cheat, screw, and drink like my Aunt Rita after her second divorce…

At 75 bucks a pop, I highly doubt any wee kids will be playing with the dolls in likenesses of Joan (Christina Hendricks), Betty (January Jones), Roger (John Slattery), and Don (Jon Hamm).

My gripe is this: How can you make the Joan doll the EXACT same size as Betty?

Christina Hendricks’s curves are kicking and Mattel totally missed a golden opportunity to finally create a different (realistic, healthy, improved) body-type Barbie.

For a special price of $74.99, I’d like the authentic, ample angles of the real Joan Holloway, please.
