Daniel Radcliffe’s Impassioned PSA for the Trevor Project
The actor best known worldwide as boy-wizard hero Harry Potter continues his commitment to the LGBTQ youth charity the Trevor Project with a new PSA video clip.
Radcliffe appeals to the public, pleading for confused or troubled teens to take advantage of the organization’s services. “If you’re feeling helpless or hopeless,” the British actor says, “there's always a safe place to turn. You can talk to someone 24 hours a day." Radcliffe advises that one need only call — (866) 4-U-TREVOR — for free and confidential support.
"There are about 160 people in total who work around the clock, and that number is obviously growing over time. It is an incredible thing," he told MTV News. "I was talking to one of the [volunteers], who said, 'I hate the fact that this needs to exist.' But it's so important that it does."
"It's something I've always been quite passionate about because I grew up around gay men,” he explained. “It was always a natural thing to me. It was never something I ever gave a second thought to. ... And now I am in a position where I can help an amazing thing like the Trevor Project."
LGBTQ youths (and adults, for that matter) can’t hear Daniel’s final words on the subject often enough: "Be proud of who you are."
