Spidey Watch Update: Andrew Garfield is the New Spider-Man

So in the end, it wasn’t Josh Hutcherson, Jamie Bell or Aaron Johnson. It’s 26 year old Andrew Garfield who will star as the web-slinging superhero in Sony’s new 3-D Spider-Man reboot.

Out in time for the 4th of July holiday weekend in 2012, Garfield will assume the role of Peter Parker as a teenager grappling with both contemporary human problems and amazing super-human crises.

Director Marc Webb assures movie and comic fans of Spidey,  "though his name may be new to many, those who know this the young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents. He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker."

Garfield has previous appeared in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Lion for Lambs, Boy A and forthcoming Facebook movie, The Social Network. here's Garfield backstage just after winning the Actor BAFTA for his emotional performance in Boy A at the British Academy Television Awards in 2008.
