Hot Read: So Super Duper
What do you do when you feel like you are part of a group that is underrepresented in comics?
If you’re openly gay writer Brian Anderson, you create your own superhero soap opera comic book series called So Super Duper. The latest issue and penultimate chapter of this long-running underground comic book series, is sure to surprise readers with some shocking (and not so shocking) revelations.
To give you some background, So Super Duper doesn't shy away from queer stereotypes; rather, it embraces them with more gusto than a failed theater queen attending a Sound of Music sing-along. The indie series' main character, Psyche, is a sexually confused male fairy who is over the top in every way. From squealing “Hieeeee, gang” as he enters a room to brandishing a blue scarf in place of the traditional superhero cape, there’s no doubt that Psyche is "happily as queer as they come.”
Featuring a diverse cast of loveable characters, the series is a super fun read that’s witty, charming and laugh-out-loud funny.
For those who are unfamiliar with Psyche and his super duper team of amazin’naughts, never fear, you can catch up on all the fun at www.sosuperduper.com. Each issue of this totally fabulous 12-part series is still available and with issue #11 released this month, it’s a perfect time for new readers to jump on board before upcoming the series finale.
So what are those aforementioned revelations? Well, it's like a secret identity—we can't give it away—but we can reveal that there will be a marriage proposal for our friendly neighborhood fairy himself! But trust us, there's even more fun in store.
So Super Duper #11 is written by Brian Anderson and features art by Celina Hernandez, with a back-up feature by writer/artist Kevenn T. Smith.
