It's no surprise that everyone's favorite housemother, Mrs. Garrett, is down with the gays, but what about when it's one of her girls?

Last week news broke that Geri Jewell, who played Blair Warner's cousin Geri, a comedian with cerebral palsy, on the long running sitcom, The Facts of Life, would come out as lesbian in her forthcoming memoir.

Find out what Charlotte Rae, AKA Mrs. Garrett, has to say about it after the jump.

"Her coming out as a lesbian, well, it's a healthy time to come out, everybody is very open about it, which is wonderful, absolutely wonderful," Rae says. "I'm just very amazed at Geri Jewell, the struggles she's had, the joys she's given to so many people, the inspiration she's been to all of us."

Jewell's memoir I'm Walking As Straight As I Can will be published in April.
