The superhero action flick staring super-hot Ryan Reynolds might not have made a heroic splash at the box office, but Warner Bros. is already planning a sequel for the next big screen adventure of the Emerald Knight.

The film’s opening $53.2 million weekend was slightly lower than the $55.1 million opening of X-Men: First Class and well behind Thor’s $65.7 million start.

Nevertheless, the movie has yet to open in many other countries where Green Lantern could gain some momentum internationally.

Even with the film’s disappointing domestic take, it’s a safe bet that Warner Bros. will still make an eventual profit from Green Lantern. Between merchandising and future DVD/Blu-ray sales, the studio still has plenty of profit they can squeeze from this character. They’d be crazy not to make a sequel—and that only means more shots of Ryan slipping into that skintight suit. Who wouldn’t want to see more of that?
