The Multicultural Experience: Outfest Unveils Fusion Film Festival Lineup
On Wednesday, Outfest announced the 2012 lineup for Fusion: Los Angeles LGBT People of Color Film Festival, March 22-24 at the Egyptian Theater and Renberg Theatre in Hollywood, which includes short and feature length films in addition to panels, workshops and parties.
And clearly, with a broad framework of films such as Stud Life, Gaysian Dream and Chutney Popcorn, among many others, the multicultural experience is not easily pinned down. But nonetheless, these stories promise to deliver an uniquely important way of looking at all of the delicate cultural details standing squarely in front of us, even if we don’t always recognize the whole truth about what diversity really means within the LGBT community.
Moreover, Lee Daniels (Precious, Monster’s Ball) will present the 2012 Fusion Achievement Award to Patrik-Ian Polk (Punks, Noah’s Arc), who returns to the festival with the world premiere of his third feature, The Skinny, on Saturday, March 24.
"I am very excited and honored to be receiving this award from Outfest, and to premiere my new film at Fusion," said Polk in a press release. "Outfest has been a loving supporter of my work since my first film PUNKS in 2000. I've shown all my films there, and the amazing work they've done with Fusion specifically highlighting the work of LGBT filmmakers of color is a shining example of their commitment to promoting diversity within the genre of gay film."
