Red Bull Energizes Equality
We already know that Red Bull gives you wings, but it also supports your right to fly into a gay marriage.
Although he's all about sponsoring extreme sports, Dietrich Mateschitz, the Austrian businessman who founded the energy drink company, isn't known for making public political statements. All that changed in the wake of last week's DOMA and Prop. 8 decisions from the Supreme Court.
The privately held company took to Facebook to post their own version of the HRC equality symbol comprised of cranberry-flavored Red Edition Red Bull cans with the headline "Energize Equality." The page, which has more than 39 million fans, blew up with comments. Most were positive, but some bigots wrote that they'd no longer be buying Red Bull, opting instead for competitors like Monster or Rockstar.
Of course, those people are idiots; as Out.com points out, Monster is owned by Coca-Cola, which Americans For Truth on Homosexuality website files under “100-Percent Pro-Homosexual Corporations,” and Rockstar has donated $100,000 to LGBT charities.
Rock on, Red Bull.
