"Mass Effect 3" and the Great Gay Sex Debate

Video game developer BioWare has received both cheers and jeers for incorporating same-sex romance options into several of their popular action role-playing games.

Most recently the company has taken heavy fire for giving players the chance to romance characters of the same sex in Mass Effect 3 and promising to include optional gay romantic subplots in Star Wars: The Old Republic at a future date.

But for all the flack the company has received, a majority of the concerns raised by conservatives are unfounded. Not only are all romances completely optional within the game—despite false claims the scenarios are forced on players—the scenes in which they culminate are no more graphic than those found on popular network television shows.

Just how graphic are they?

While the scenes are definitely hot, they venture more on the side of sweet than sexy—exactly what you’d expect from any romantic subplot.

The below clips from Mass Effect 3 (courtesy of IGN) zoom in on two possible guy-on-guy scenarios woven into the game’s storyline.  Have a look and see for yourself the pixel-presentation that conservatives have labeled “Pornographic.”
