Week In Geek: DC Outs First Intersex Superhero, Minnie Mouse Works the Runway, and More
These are the nerdy bits of news that had us geeking out this week.
Shining Knight Revealed to be DC Comics’ First Intersex Hero
DC Comics took another step towards a more diverse universe when the character Shining Knight was outed as the company’s first intersex character earlier this week in Demon Knights #14.
I had the pleasure of interviewing DC Comics co-publisher Dan Didio last year for Advocate.com when the company rebooted its entire universe and announced several LGBT characters would be spotlighted in DC’s new line of comics. At the time, Didio said he wanted to push for a more diverse universe that included people from across the LGBT spectrum and the company has certainly taken steps over the past year to do just that. It’s wonderful to see DC hasn’t stopped at the inclusion of a token character or two and is continuing their crusade for characters who represent people from all walks of life.
Check out the awesome reveal below:
The X-Gays Totally Rock!
Gay indie comics creator Brian Andersen (So Super Duper) and out X Factor contestant Jason Brock co-host the wonderfully entertaining monthly queer comics podcast X-Gays (Not to be confused with ex-gays). However, since Jason has been indisposed of late, Brain has been filling the co-host chair with special guests and gave me the honor of joining him for this month’s episode. If you’re a fan of comics, sex (Who isn’t?), and all things geeky you’ll definitely want to add this podcast to your monthly list.
Disney Goes Glam
Disney has teamed up with Barney’s New York for an ‘Electric Holiday.’ The below video is an entertaining mixture of geeky and glam as Minnie Mouse embarks on a fabulous fashion adventure in Paris, where she runs into a number of real-world fashion mavens. (Can you spot them all?) The video is totes adorbes, and just wait until you see Minnie work the runway. #absolutelyflawless
More Battlestar Galactica
Last week, the new BSG prequel, Blood and Chrome began airing as webisodes exclusively on YouTube. Chapters 2, 3, and 4 are all available as of today and I’m not ashamed to say I’m totally crushing on young William Adama (Luke Pasqualino).
Aquaman Is Sexy and He Knows it!
With People magazine crowning Channing Tatum 2012’s Sexiest Man Alive, MTV Geek had some fun by asking readers who the sexiest male superhero was and it’s no surprise Aquaman dominated the competition. However, any gay man could’ve answered that question faster than the Flash after his morning cup of coffee. Swimmers always bring the sexy!
