The Free Smartphone App That'll Improve Your Eating Habits
Face it—counting calories sucks.
Half of us don't even know what the heck a calorie is let alone how many we're eating at any given time. Then trying to figure out if you're getting enough calcium, protein or too many carbohydrates—forget it.
But luckily there's a smartphone app that can help track all that as well as help you reach your desired weight and it's easy to use.
It's the My Fitness Pal Diet Tracker and Calorie Counter, available on iPhone, Android, Blackberry and Windows smartphones as well as any computer.
First, you create a free account (don't worry, there's no junk mail). Then you enter in your age, height, weight and personal weight goal. Then My Fitness Pal gives you a daily calorie goal to shoot for and the estimated amount of time it'll take to reach your desired weight.
After that, all you have to do is enter in the foods you eat in your personal diary and it'll track the calories and nutritional information for you. And what's awesome is that My Fitness Pal has a database with over 1,500,000 foods including brand name food products and restaurant meals.
Plus you can save foods and meals that you regularly eat as well as enter in any exercise you do to help keep track of the calories you're taking in and burning off.
It tracks all this info in a series of handy charts that shows your progress over time and lets you know just what you're eating and how healthy it actually is.
I've been using it for the last month and it's made me realize just how much I unconsciously overeat by snacking and drinking. That might sound unpleasant, but on the contrary, it's helped me restrain myself and realize that I can eat whatever I want, as long as I balance it out with healthy food choices too.
