WATCH: 'Rent Boys', Now on Here TV

By: Rob Hebert

Rent Boys, now playing on Here TV, is a compelling documentary that focuses on five male sex workers from Eastern Europe. Edgy, hard-hitting, and insightful, the film takes an unflinching look at their lives, analyzes the social circumstances that can pave the way to a life of prostitution, and successfully avoids all cliché.

Rent Boys is directed by German auteur Rosa Von Praunheim. A pioneer in the Queer Cinema movement, Von Praunheim has been making films for almost 40 years and was awarded the Berlinale Camera at the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival. This prestigious award is given to filmmakers to which the festival feels particularly indebted and wishes to express its thanks.

Born Holger Radtke, he assumed his stage name Rosa von Praunheim as reminiscence to his home in Frankfurt where a section of the city is called Praunheim, and to the “Rosa Winkel” (pink triangle), the symbol homosexuals had to wear in the concentration camps during the Third Reich.

Rent Boys is currently playing nationwide on Here TV. Watch the trailer below.
