Wonder Woman Gets New Origin
***Spoiler warning! Wonder Woman readers proceed at your own risk.***
Last week we brought you news that Wonder Woman’s newly re-launched comic book series was met with a high level of praise by fans and critics despite updates to the character’s look and mythology.
Now DC Comics has announced via the company’s official publicity blog, The Source, that even more changes are in store for the Amazing Amazon.
A major change to Wonder Woman’s origin will be reveled when issue #3 lands in November. According to DC:
“In DC COMICS-THE NEW 52, Wonder Woman will have a new origin, in which she is the daughter of Hippolyta … and Zeus! In recent interviews, writer Brian Azzarello and artist Cliff Chiang have teased that readers should expect the unexpected in this edgier, horror take on the superhero genre and the king of the gods will ensure that nothing goes as planned for his defiant daughter.”
Wonder Woman has long been hailed as a feminist icon due to the fact that she owed no part of her creation to any man. A father figure has not traditionally been a part of Wonder Woman’s origin. Instead she was formed from clay by her mother and brought to life by the gods.
