It Gets Better for Kevin Keller, Archie's Gay Pal

By: Brandon Voss

Kevin Keller became an instant icon in 2010 as the first gay character introduced in the pages of Archie Comics. After the first issue featuring Kevin became the first to sell out in Archie's 70-year history, the hunky teen quickly became one of the most recognizable faces in Riverdale, starring in a GLAAD Award-winning comic series and a young adult novel.

Hey, he even pissed off One Million Moms — so you know the kid's doing something right!

Now Kevin Keller has joined the It Gets Better campaign, which declared yesterday, July 9, "Kevin Keller Day." The campaign also released a special Kevin Keller “It Gets Better” video starring writer-artist Dan Parent, Kevin's proud creator.

"We work hard to make sure that Kevin’s storylines include many issues that people face today," Dan says. "

Recently, the It Gets Better Project spent some time with me at Archie Comics, learning more about how we developed Kevin’s story and where we see the future of Riverdale."
