Protecting Children My Ass

Two sets of parents of children featured in Yes on 8’s latest TV ads are outraged that footage of their children was altered and featured in the spot without permission. On Sunday letters were hand delivered to both the Yes on 8 offices and to the San Francisco Chronicle, who had originally published the video on its Web site.

The ad is part of a recent campaign highlighting a grade school field trip to a gay wedding. The Yes on 8 support group is trying to suggest that if the state proposition does in fact pass, not only will young minds be taught homosexuality in school, but they’ll be also bussed out to lesbian celebrations.

The video, which was pulled from the San Francisco Chronicle without permission, pans across a sea of youth and settles on one beautiful blond girl holding flowers. Sinister music has been added to suggest that the child is a) there against her will and b) she’s watching some kind of a live sodomy show.

Although previously reported numerous times, the letters remind that all parents were notified well in advance of the event and given ample opportunity to ask that their children not attend.

In the letter, Jen Press (her daughter Lucy is showcased in the ad) passionately states "Prop 8 claims to be about families, but we're here to say you can't be for families by attacking our families. You can't be for families and take these children's innocent images and flash them not only on television statewide, but on your fund raising page. This must stop right now."

It’s fascinating that a group whose stated mission is to protect families and youth would choose to exploit innocent children in an attempt to grab a few votes.

What action do you think the parents should take against Yes on 8?
