So They Think They Can Sing

Last week the internet was rocked (with laughter) over porn superstar Zeb Atlas. It seems the muscle stud thought he would follow in the footsteps of fellow porn performers and take a stab at recording some pop music.

He teamed up with Pearly Gates (Who? Pepper Mashay's step sister, perhaps?) and the two recorded a cover of Diana Ross' 1976 #1-hit "Love Hangover."

Between the fabricated singing and sensual shirtless scenes, it was the most insane thing we've seen in ages. Now his people are saying, "Zeb's debut as a pop star is a tongue'n cheek version..." but you can't help thinking that a small part of Zeb hoped he'd be the next Andrea True, porn star turned disco diva after singing the 1976 hit, "More More More."

What other gay male fantasies stepped behind the mic? Find out.

Probably the most popular of the bunch—he did smokin' hot movies AND had some singing talent—Ford released two full length albums: Tug of War and Under the Covers. He also released several singles, including covers of "Losing My Religion," and Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours" with the aforementioned Pepper Mashay.

"Signed" peaked at #9 on the Hot Dance Club Play and #25 on the Hot Dance Singles Sales charts. He was also part of the True Colors Tour 2008.

There are a lot of his videos on YouTube, but we just gave you our favorite here.

Remember on American Idol when this guy named Zachary Travis came on in bad drag and sang Whitney Houston’s “Queen of the Night”? Simon Cowell naturally read him and the producers played "The Crying Game" when he exited. Well, a short while later that twink ditched the hair and heels and reappeared in the buff as bottom boy Kirk Cummings.

Here he is holding wood, because porn photographers are clever like that.

Sadly, we can't find the song, but here's an American Idol pic.

After a couple years of being the industry's (arguably) hottest (supposedly) monogamous porn couple, The Jarics (as their fans called them) hooked up with RuPaul. Nothing happened. But RuPaul connected them with her producer and they recorded an single called "Hit Me Up."

Then the two broke up, but because they were marketed as a couple, they still had to do public appearances. So one night, Aden (left) and Jordan (the other one) were judging a drag competition, a fight broke out between them and Aden hit Jordan up with a glass paperweight. He got arrested.

Needless to say, a full album is not in the works. But here's the song with photos of their career.

ReichenLehmkuhl-2-1 Reichen Lehmkuhl
While not an actual adult film star, Reichen gets an honorable mention for using his sex appeal to sell himself to the masses. He's porn adjacent—displaying his eroticism without having to actually get too, too dirty.

This brings us to The A-List New York. This is where you know the show is cast and not a collection of real friends, because real friends would never let you do something like that on camera. For real.

So here it is. And once you hear it, you will never make fun of porn stars singing again.

David_burrill_6_20100809_1553385178 David Burrill
Our seasoned audience will recall David Burrill, who was one of the first male stars to attempt a music career.

He performed solo scenes and posed in magazines like Playgirl and Men. According to The Island of Deserted Pop Stars (which could be totally off but it has the most info we could find), he released an album called Cover Boy in the early 1990s, Bump Da Booty Blue in 1993 and Sinner around 1999. Bump Da Booty Blue is described as "primarily house, with traces of techno, not unlike Snap! or Technotronic." Sinner "...was much more electro, with heavy traces of freestyle and house, and it includes an electro remake of Prince's 'Little Red Corvette.'" He also teamed up with Chad Spikes in 1994, and they released an album together as DV8.

He's listed as having sung the track "What's Normal" on the Porn to Rock CD from 1999. The album featured crazy straight porn performers like Johnny Toxic and Vinnie Spit, plus Marshall O'Boy who may be a gay leather or bi performer, depending on where you look online. The adult industry is sometimes horrible with their databases.

He's lean, ripped, and decidedly dirty in his many movies. His only musical outing featured a tune that sounded vaguely Pet Shop Boys meets Erasure meets New Order, but updated for 2000.

Unfortunately, the song came out in 2006. That said, it's actually a fun tune one can sing throughout the day.

As a random side note, when Hazzard is not making skin flicks he evidently works in various high-end kitchens and studies cooking. We found a video where he teaches viewers how to mix a cocktail from one of his favorite LA restaurants.

So if the music career doesn't work out (5 years later) maybe there are other options.

Fredrick FordFredrick Ford
Billed as the "Dirty Boy Next Door" (by himself), Ford's story is like a Lifetime movie starring Judith Light as his mother: good kid becomes Ivy League student then works on Wall Street, but at night he goes wild as a go-go dancer. He signed with OMC records, then "In June of 2004, I took stock of where I was in life and realized that since the major record labels... were only looking for Britney/Justin clones, I would have to ultimately make my own career without them."

And so he did porn. And recorded the album Dirty Little Secret in 2005 and released singles "Turn My World Around," "Out of the Dark," and "Too Funky." He's performed his song in a lot of clubs and at events. And though his website hasn't been updated in a while it looks like he's still singing and even doing some acting.

His "Out of the Dark" video is well produced and we've seen it played at places like Hamburger Mary's, but "Turn My World Around" is... wow... it's just... such a song from a period.

Dean_monroe_3_20050307_1688766827 Dean Monroe
God, he's beautiful...

What? Sorry. Got distracted. Dean Monroe is one of those gorgeous guys who's got no problem being versatile in front of the lens. Combine that hot, carnal energy with his beautiful Greek looks, and you'd think that nothing could stop him.

So here's the song with a photo montage! It's very Euro dance track sounding, with the kind of lyrics you hear on Euro dance tracks when English isn't the singer's first language. But, well, as far as we know English is Monroe's first language. But that doesn't matter here because there are pretty pictures to accompany the music.

JackWrangler Jack Wrangler
We had to give an honorary mention to Wrangler, who is one of the real legends in gay male erotica. He was hyper masculine, super sexy, and represented a genuine fantasy of gay life. He did straight porn too, and eventually went on to direct and produce theater.

(This brings up another honorable mention, Gus Mattox, a.k.a. Tom Judson. He started in theater, then at age 40 decided to do porn. He has since quit the industry and was last seen touring with Varla Jean Merman's cabaret show.)

Wrangler was open about his homosexuality and porn career, though he married a woman later in life. We can't find any actual pop or disco footage/music. There is Wrangler: Anatomy of an Icon, a feature documentary released in 2008 that covers his whole career. We've got the preview here.

And the man who started this whole investigation: Zeb Atlas!
