Your body type most resembles Randy, Paula or Simon?
Simon
How long have you been exercising seriously?
15 years
How fit do you consider yourself?
Fairly
What do you do to stay/get fit?
Eat sensibly and exercise regularly.
When were you in the best shape of your life?
Easy, 27.
What do you think about the gym/gym culture?
Depends on your reasons for the gym. If you are there to keep your body in good condition, mental well being and your own good health then I think it's great. If you're there because you have body dysmorphic disorder, anorexia or are there to just ogle guys and seek anonymous sex in the shower, then you need to consider counseling, changing up your porn DVD collection or getting a personals ad stating your stats and what you're into.
What's your favorite body part on yourself? How do you target it?
Chest, bench presses.
What's your least favorite? How do you target it?
Traps, pulldowns.
What is your ideal weight?
168 lbs.
What's your workout secret?
Keep a regular schedule and do not over exert yourself.
Are you going for long and lean or big and buff?
Lean and cut.
What is your diet secret? Tell us what you eat on a regular basis.
The best way I've found to stay lean is to eat low glycemic carbs and keep your fats to a good omega 3, 6 and 9 ratio. You really need about 40% carbs, 40% quality protein and 20% good fats. The worst thing you can do is to drink energy drinks like Red Bull and highly caffinated sodas. The caffeine makes your body store the sugar as fat. It's not a good combination. Stay away from 'fat burner' pills that screw with your metabolism. Your body is not stupid, it will adapt quickly to whatever you feed it. I once read that you replace all of the cells in your body over a 2 year period. You are what you eat.
What's your guilty pleasure when it comes to food?
Cheese. Brie especially. I also love scrambled eggs with homemade flour gravy.
What do you wear to the gym? Is it important?
Usually fleece shorts and a t-shirt. Shoes are very important for your feet, especially if you use a treadmill. Wear something that makes you feel comfortable when working out and comfortable mentally. Loose fitting is typically better for me. I will say that I think that guys who wear spandex for the sake of 'package promotion' is just ridiculous. I rate that up there with women who do not need to wear tight stretch pants because it creates a camel toe effect in the crotch area.
Have you ever injured yourself? How did you get past that?
I pulled a ligament in my shoulder once and that took some months to get over. It caused headaches and neck pain, plus it limited my workout. Stretching and not putting undo strain brought it back around. I can not stress the importance of stretching enough before you do any weight training. Stretch before and after cardio as well. The worst thing you can do is immediately start on weights as soon as you arrive. The 5-10 minutes spent to stretch is really worth it.
