Eye Candy Midterms: Fashion Model of the Year
Male fashion models have been popping up everywhere in 2010: from summer movies to top music videos, these snacky studs seem to be seeking our attention more than ever.
The midterm list for Fashion Model of the Year is pretty solid, and most (if not all) of these guys should make it to the finals. However, the type of models that were booked for the recent shows in Milan and Paris signaled the impending end of the lanky boy trend that has dominated fashion for the past few years. So don't be surprised if a new and beefier overnight sensation knocks someone off this list by December. Until then, take a look at the top hotties of haute couture, and vote for the one you think has made the biggest impact in the first half of 2010.
David Agbodji
David Agbodji made an unforgettable splash this year as the face, bod, and bare bottom of Calvin Klein's 2010 campaign (his nude CK billboard in SoHo literally stopped traffic). In addition to making Paper magazine's "Beautiful People" list, the Bronx resident is also an accomplished fashion photographer, with a body of behind-the-lens work that rivals his modeling gigs.
Noah Mills
Baltimore native Noah Mills landed firmly on the pop culture map this year with his role in SATC2. And though the film was a critical disappointment, enthusiasm for Noah has grown. Not only has he appeared in all of D&G's sexy advertising this year, but he shared a Gap campaign with Sean O'Pry, and got a solo gig in the Calzedonia Mare swimwear ads. Plus, he continues to make films. Like Channing Tatum before him, Noah is poised to become a successful model-turned-actor.
Sean O'Pry
Sean O'Pry was last year's winner in this category, and is the only 2009 Golden Iris nominee to make the midterms—though he almost didn't. Despite booking more international campaigns than just about any other model in the biz, Seano's shied away from covers and editorial work, which produce sessions more about artistry than commerce. This year, he's put himself in danger of looking like a spokesmodel, rather than a supermodel (success is not solely defined by one's bank account). But, Dean Isidro's breathtakingly sexy video of the twenty-one-year-old reminded us that he's a once in a generation beauty.
Evandro Soldati
Brazilian babe Evandro Soldati has been around for years, but he got his biggest break ever in 2010 when A-list photographer Steven Klein cast him as the featured male model in Lady Gaga's "Alejandro" video (presumably in the title role). That was followed by Klein booking the twenty-five-year-old for D&G's knockout fall campaign. No matter what Evan's future holds, the Gaga video has secured a place for him in pop culture history.
River Viiperi
A star was born in 2010, and his name is River Viiperi. In the biz for just ten months, the Spanish pupcake has already graced an unprecedented six magazine covers (including one with Kylie), and racked up tens of thousands of page views here on Gay.com Daily. And images from River's very first campaign—for American Eagle—have just been released. He is the clearest front runner of all the Midterm nominees this year.
