GLAAD Media Awards Report & Photos
The 2012 GLAAD Media Awards kicked off on Saturday, March 24, in New York City with an outstanding event hosted by Glee stars Naya Rivera and Cory Monteith.
In attendance were major names like Dakota Fanning, Bernadette Peters, hunky Cheyenne Jackson, Megan Hilty from Smash, Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi, Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir, Former Growing Pains star and gay advocate Tracy Gold, hip-hop icon Russell Simmons, former Queer Eye guys Carson Kresley and Ted Allen, the unstoppable Wendy Williams, and from America's Next Top Model came Jay Manuel and Isis King the transgender contestant.
The Advocate/Out won top honors with Outstanding Magazine Overall Coverage; Bernadette Peters and John Stamos presented the Vito Russo Award to film, television, and theater producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron; Batwoman writers J.H. Williams III and W. Haden Blackman won for best comic book; Weinstein Company Co-Chairman and outspoken anti-bullying advocate Harvey Weinstein presented a Special Recognition Award to openly gay high school student Katy Butler who launched a Change.org campaign last month to advocate that the 'R' rating of the upcoming documentary Bully be changed to 'PG-13'; Lady Gaga won Outstanding Music Artist for her album Born This Way; and Outstanding Talk Show Episode, won by The Oprah Winfrey Show for the episode "Coming Out on the Oprah Show: 25 Years of Unforgettable Guests."
