Meet the Boys of Boylesque
The burlesque movement has been going strong for more than a decade, but few people know about Boylesque. That's right, boys doing sexy striptease and cheeky dancing in a cabaret-style setting for fawning straight and gay audiences. These aren't your typical go-go boys gyrating on a box for quick cash at a club, but fully-realized performances that hold the drama of drag with the sinful side of a Vegas skin revue.
The New York Boylesque Festival runs through tonight, so unless you're in NYC you won't be able to see it; if you are in the city, head to Rebel (251 W. 30th St.) to check out all the action. It's brought to you by Jen Gapay of Thirsty Girl and NYC’s King of Queer Sleaze Daniel Nardicio. It's hosted by Sweetie and features more than 20 amazing performers from around the globe, including the original King of Boylesque & 2006 Mr. Exotic World Winner Tigger. Also in the house are 2010 Mr. Exotic World winnerThe Evil Hate Monkey (NYC), Mahogany Storm (Toronto), 2006 Mr. Exotic World winner Hot Toddy (Chicago), GO-GO Harder (NYC), The Luminous Pariah (Seattle), Paris Original-Poetry in Motion (Seattle), Dew Lily (Toronto), Jonny Porkpie (NYC), Mr. Gorgeous (NYC), and the amazing troupes BoylesqueTO (Toronto), Mod Carousel (Seattle), and more.
