MUST HIT: Women’s Initiative Awards Ceremony in NY

By: Rick Andreoli

Funny lady Judy Gold hosts an amazing evening with the Hetrick-Martin Institute in New York on May 9th. It's the Women's Awards Ceremony, which honors female leaders from diverse fields who are members or strong allies of the LGBTQ community. The event will bring together over 100 women from various professional and economic backgrounds to build a community of support around at-risk LGBTQ youth. Being honored are New York City Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn, actress Adepero Oduye and producer Nekisa Cooper of the indie film Pariah, and president of the American Federation of Teachers Randi Weingarten.

The New York-based Hetrick-Martin Institute provides free social support, programming and safe havens for neglected and abused LGBTQ youth. HMI’s Women’s Initiative Committee is a group of women committed to supporting female-focused programming, raising awareness of HMI in the female community, and supporting the youth of their Women’s Task Force, which is comprised of HMI youth members dedicated to creating programs that address the special needs of young women—such as issues of health and wellness, education and job readiness, and career exploration.

This is a great organization to support, and an incredible event to attend. Get more info below!
