Hugh Jackman Smolders in New 'Les Misérables' Poster
Mere weeks after seeing his ripped torso in the first promo pic for the upcoming action film The Wolverine, we're now treated to a somewhat softer, poorer, more suffering side of Hugh Jackman as prisoner 24601 Jean Valjean a new poster for the upcoming musical epic Les Misérables.
It's this same kind of extreme versatility — chasing the robot-boxing blockbuster Real Steel with a flamboyant one-man Broadway show, for example — that inspired Saturday Night Live to call the 44-year-old Aussie "the world's most masculine and feminine man" in a recurring sketch.
Jackman spoke candidly about achieving that career balance in a recent interview with Playbill. "Honestly, it's basically been about avoiding unemployment," he says. "When I first graduated from drama school, my goal was to keep pushing open as many doors as possible, so that included all different types of film, musical theatre, and straight plays. I figured, well, I'm pretty good at quite a few things, so I'll keep on working at all of them. I also feel that it's good for actors to say "yes" and risk making fools out of themselves. Ultimately, that approach has been something that's defined me in this business."
The star-studded Les Misérables is in theaters Dec. 25. Check out the poster and extended behind-the-scenes trailer below.
