LISTEN: Barbra Streisand's 'I Think It's Going to Rain Today'
Barbra Streisand has unearthed a rare and special treat in "I Think It's Going to Rain Today," which will be included on her upcoming album Release Me, a career-spanning collection of previously unreleased songs that reach as far back as 1963.
This oldie but goodie was recorded in 1971 — one take, amateurs! — during the Stoney End sessions with Randy Newman, who wrote the track, tickling the ivories. In a recent statement regarding the new but old collection, Streisand wrote, “The thing I’m happiest about is that I still have great affection for all these songs. They appealed to me at the time … and still do. Listening now, I actually think to myself, ‘The girl wasn’t half bad.’”
Release Me will be released Sept. 25 on vinyl and Oct. 9 on CD and MP3. Check out "I Think It's Going to Rain Today" below — and have fun meticulously comparing Streisand's cover to other notable versions of the song by the likes of Nina Simone, Dusty Springfield, and Bette Midler.
