LISTEN: Sharon Needles' Spooky Cover of 'Everyday Is Halloween'
For dark Drag Race winner Sharon Needles, every day is Halloween. So it's fitting that she recently made a spooky cover of Minsitry's 1984 hit "Everyday is Halloween" — especially considering that she recently dressed up as a zombie to promote vegetarianism.
But it's also interesting to note that the dancier original was about intolerance against goth-fashion. In the original song, Ministry vocalist Al Jourgensen croons:
"Well any time, any place, anywhere that I go
all the people seem to stop and stare
they say 'Why are you dressed like it's Halloween?
you look so absurd, you look so obscene'
Oh, why can't I live a life for me?
why should I take the abuse that's served?
why can't they see they're just like me
it's the same, it's the same in the whole wide world
well I let their teeny minds think
that they're dealing with someone who is over the brink
and I dress this way just to keep them at bay
As a lover of the dark, Needles is the right queen for this cover. But she and Armen Ra perform it slow, luxuriating over each word and atmospheric sound as it haunts your inner labyrinths.
