Goodbye, Josey Greenwell. Hello, Nate Green.

By: Ross von Metzke

Any mention of Josey Greenwell has been omitted from Nate Green’s bio as the country singer makes a play for mainstream success.

According to, Green is one of the 10 hottest guys in country music, and the video for his new single “Wild and Free” seems designed to make this country crooner a huge hit with the ladies.

But a few years ago, Green went by Josey Greenwell, an openly gay singer who posed for the cover of Australia’s DNA Magazine and was dating Logo’s A-List star Rodiney Santiago.

Greenwell talked to DNA about being an openly gay singer, saying: “Music should be about talent and not sexuality, but I’m proud of mine nonetheless.”

In a twist that seems ripped straight out of TV’s Nashville, Green appears to be playing the role of typical, young country heartthrob to the hilt. He’s seen in bed with women in his debut music video, which is currently in heavy rotation on CMT. And any mention of Greenwell and his well-documented career as an out singer has been omitted from his official bio, which notes that he’s toured with some of the biggest names in country music, including Dierks Bentley and The Zac Brown Band. (He was going by "Josey Greenwell" on those tours.)

In fact, Greenwell used to have a Twitter account, a Facebook profile and a Wikipedia page — according to, they’ve all been deleted.

Green himself has yet to address the makeover despite numerous media outlets making the connection. But his videos and photo shoots, many of which we have included for your enjoyment here, are still available online.

We loved his voice then, and we love it now.
