A Gay 9/11 Story... Starring Madonna
This is a true story.
In September 2001, Steve Thompson and a group of friends participated in the Canada-US AIDS Vaccine Ride. Their trip began in Montreal, Canada and ended in Portland, Maine. The quickest route to their homes in Los Angeles was by taking a hopper flight from Maine to Boston, and from Boston to LA. Because the ride was so strenuous, the group decided that after finishing the ride on September 9, they would relax in Portland on September 10 and fly home via the morning flight on September 11.
September 11, 2001.
Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, Madonna was on her “Drowned World Tour.” At the last minute, she added an additional performance in Los Angeles that coincided with the completion of the AIDS Ride. In a panic to see their favorite diva in concert, Steve and his ex-boyfriend scrambled to purchase tickets for this new show, even though it meant flying back a day early.
And so Steve and his ex boarded an American Airlines flight from Boston to Los Angeles on September 10th, instead of their original plan to fly back on American Airlines Flight 11, on September 11th.
Never forget: Madonna saves lives.
Incidentally, for differing reasons—over-sleeping, not feeling well, Madonna tickets.— everyone in their group missed the flight that morning.
